Animal Planet series “Killer Outbreaks” Features CDC Experts

The TV network, Animal Planet, is scheduled to air six episodes of their new series “Killer Outbreaks.”  Each episode features potentially deadly viruses and includes commentary from CDC experts and victims of the outbreak.

The first episode aired Friday, April 15 at 9 pm (ET).

In this season, the episodes will cover Anthrax, E.coli, Hantavirus, Rabies, West Nile Virus, Monkey Pox, Acinetobacter Baumannii, Salmonella, Valley Fever, Meningococcal Disease, SARS and MRSA.

GATS Highlights Significant Tobacco Use Decline in Turkey

The Government of Turkey today released the country’s latest results from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS), and the numbers tell the story of Turkey’s success to reduce smoking prevalence in the country. In 2012, 1.2 million fewer adults smoked cigarettes when compared to 2008. On a percentage basis, this figure translates to 27.1 percent of Turkish adults smoking in 2012 versus 31.2 percent in 2008.
