CDC Foundation Celebrates 10th Anniversary with A Tribute to Heroes

On May 4, 2005, more than 300 guests gathered at the Atlanta History Center to help the CDC Foundation celebrate our 10th Anniversary. The theme for the evening was “celebrating a decade of heroes and a decade of helping CDC do more, faster.”

Mr. Rudy Giuliani, 107th Mayor of New York City (1993-2001), was awarded the inaugural CDC Foundation Hero Award for his outstanding leadership of one of the world’s most important cities during its gravest crisis and for establishing a standard of leadership that embraced public health and public health planning as priorities. Mr. Giuliani also delivered the keynote address for the evening and emphasized the importance of leadership, especially in times of crisis.

The contributions of six additional anniversary heroes were highlighted in a video. These special individuals were recognized for going above and beyond their duties and obligations to make a substantive impact on public health and on the well-being of individuals and communities worldwide. On May 4, their inspiring stories sparked a standing ovation from the guests.

Proceeds from the event, approximately $58,000, will provide immediate flexible resources to CDC experts addressing global public health priorities.
