Launching Enhanced Online Tool to Help Prevent Infections in Cancer Patients

In collaboration with CDC, an enhanced website, PreventCancerInfections.org, was re-launched with a new design to make resources more accessible. The site provides information, action steps and tools for cancer patients, healthcare providers and their families. The site emphasizes the 3 Step approach to preventing infections in cancer patients—prepare, prevent and protect—to reduce the risk of developing potentially life-threatening infections during chemotherapy treatment.

Optimizing Safe Driving Program for Teens

The CDC Foundation’s partners UPS, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and CDC organized a project to evaluate the UPS Road Code Teen Safe Driving Program. Road Code is a training program that educates teens about safe driving habits and skills, the consequences of hazardous and distracted driving and common road hazards. CDC conducted an analysis of the UPS Road Code curriculum and provided recommendations and resources based on the most recent and best available science.

Partnering with the Fries Foundation to Recognize Individuals who Have Made Important Contributions to Public Health

The James F. and Sarah T. Fries Foundation announced that it will provide an endowment to the CDC Foundation for management and administration of their public health awards program. Recipients of the public health awards program have been recognized annually through The Fries Prize for Improving Health and the Elizabeth Fries Health Education Award.

Addressing Unsafe Injection Practices in U.S. Healthcare Settings

A partnership with Eli Lilly and Company expands CDC’s work with the Safe Injection Practices Coalition’s One & Only Campaign, an injection safety awareness campaign that has produced and distributed educational and multimedia tools for healthcare providers and patients.

Increasing the Understanding of the Link between Law and Policy and Healthier Outcomes

The Healthy People 2020 Law and Health Policy Project was launched with CDC, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to demonstrate the value of how laws and policies can assist people in making healthier decisions. Subject matter experts are working with federal partners to develop 10 to 15 evidence-based reports during the next three years to highlight the state of laws and policies related to specific topic areas within HHS’s Healthy People 2020 initiative.

Improving Data for Decision-Making in Global Cervical Cancer Programs

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the CDC Foundation has established a new partnership with the George W. Bush Institute, CDC, and the WHO to expand the quality and availability of data for cervical cancer programs around the world. By developing global standards, tools and guidance for low- and middle-income countries, the project will help governments and partners strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of their cervical cancer programs and provide them with evidence for better decision-making.

Launching an Online Feature, Business Pulse, to Explore How CDC Protects the Health of Business

The CDC Foundation launched Business Pulse to connect CDC’s resources to the business community. Business Pulse is an online feature that highlights CDC’s 24/7 life-saving work, including ready access to information, resources and tools. Business Pulse focuses on a different topic each quarter.

Business Pulse has four web-based components: business challenges, a question and answer between a business leader and a CDC expert, an interactive infographic highlighting opportunities for businesses to take action, and resources.

Expanding Global Nutrition by Fortifying Foods with Micronutrients

The Food Fortification Initiative equips country leaders to improve the population’s nutrition by adding vitamins and minerals to wheat flour, maize flour and rice. The public-private-civic partnership includes CDC and the CDC Foundation as well as alliances between governments and international agencies, industries and consumer and civic organizations. The two main health problems addressed by grain fortification are anemia caused by nutritional deficiencies and neural tube birth defects caused by insufficient folic acid.
