TEFCA Future of Public Health Call to Action to Advance Nationwide Data Exchange

Goals and Objectives

This joint event between the CDC Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO) was convened to bring together public health, health care, health information exchange organizations and national partners to identify solutions to accelerate participation in the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) Objectives of the two-day event included: 

  1. Facilitate Dialogue: Connect public health and healthcare leaders to discuss visions, challenges, and opportunities for TEFCA participation.
  2. Identify Alignments: Highlight common goals and challenges between public health and healthcare sectors to foster collaboration.
  3. Inform Strategy: Leverage insights to guide DMI (Data Modernization Initiative) Implementation Center services on issues at the public health and healthcare interface.
  4. State, Tribal, Local and Territorial (STLT) Jurisdictional Focus: Provide special attention to QHIN participation strategy and joint electronic health record (EHR) procurement efforts for jurisdictions that are not yet actively engaged with TEFCA and/or have barriers to TEFCA engagement (including territorial jurisdictions).
