Our Story

Together Our Impact is Greater

Clean air, safe water and access to nutritious food, among other priorities, are essential to keeping people healthy and safe  and ensuring our economy remains strong and stable.

The CDC Foundation helps the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the public health system save and improve lives by unleashing the power of partnerships to protect communities, everywhere. What you should know:

  • The CDC Foundation is an independent nonprofit created by Congress to establish philanthropic and private-sector partnerships to improve the public’s health and safety.
  • Since 1995, the Foundation has launched more than 1,450 programs to protect communities  from health threats like cardiovascular disease, cancer, malaria, HIV, Ebola and Zika.
  • Disease prevention and control saves lives and money, and investing in public health through the CDC Foundation leads to early detection and containment of outbreaks, preventing widespread illness and loss of life.
  • Your support saves and improves lives—now and in the future.

We Save Lives and Protect the Country

Public health’s mission is to promote safer, healthier and better-quality lives, prevent disease and injury, and ensure individuals have access to information they need to make healthy choices. We support three essential principles of public health:

  • Preparedness—We help communities prepare for health threats by mobilizing partners and empowering communities to find local solutions to meet local challenges. A better prepared nation is a stronger one.
  • Prevention—We support effective, collaborative public health strategies and work with partners to identify emerging health threats.
  • Protection—We work with CDC, public health organizations and partners to strengthen the public health systems that protect the health and safety of all Americans, which also protects workforce health and our national economy.

We Work with Speed and Flexibility

We combine private resources with scientific expertise and the speed and flexibility needed to make impact.

Our partnerships help the public health community launch new programs, expand existing programs where data shows we can make a difference and establish pilot projects to find new ways to take on complex health challenges—none of which would be possible without external support that complements government investment.

How You Can Get Involved
