The Lancet Public Health published an article examining the initial results of the Zika Contraception Access Network (Z-CAN), one of the strategies established to prevent Zika-related birth defects in Puerto Rico.

For the eleventh consecutive year, the CDC Foundation has achieved a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator. Four stars is the highest rating awarded by Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. 

In the wake of some of the worst flooding in U.S. history, the CDC Foundation today is activating its Emergency Response Fund to help the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tackle the health challenges that the citizens of Texas and Louisiana are facing following Hurricane Harvey. The fund will extend CDC’s response, providing essential supplies and vital assistance as frontline experts work with partners to address community health needs and public health infrastructure in the storm’s aftermath.

Following last year’s impactful collaboration between Walgreens and the CDC Foundation addressing the Zika outbreak, the two organizations are once again working together to help address another public health challenge—HIV prevention. To help extend the CDC Foundation’s important research and demonstration project, Walgreens made a donation today to help fund the CDC Foundation’s Sustainable Healthcenter Implementation PrEP Pilot (SHIPP) study.

Today’s obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) face a challenge in gaining all the training and expertise they need in the area of infectious diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Now, thanks to a grant from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), there is a new fellowship that aims to help OB/GYN scientists become experts in STD/HIV prevention.

David Aldridge has been elected to the board of directors of the CDC Foundation. Aldridge is the former chief financial officer and executive vice president for Superior Essex Inc. (SPSX), a $2.5 billion global wire and cable manufacturing company. Aldridge has served as an advisor to the CDC Foundation’s finance committee for the last two years, and he now serves as committee chair.

The United States is in the midst of an alarming opioid overdose epidemic, and U.S. employers are challenged by the epidemic’s toll on their workers. Users of a new, interactive web application can view and explore city-and neighborhood-level health data for America’s 500 largest cities. The application is part of the 500 Cities Project, a partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The project is made possible through a grant to the CDC Foundation from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes transmit a variety of dangerous viruses, including yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya and Zika, which in 2015–2016 spread rapidly in certain parts of the world. Today, new strategies are needed to control these mosquitoes, which are prevalent in many countries with tropical climates and in a number of U.S. states and territories. To further the search for innovative strategies to control Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hosted a two-day summit in Atlanta.
