Drug-Resistant Malaria Response
Around the world, scientists are seeing a growing resistance to antimalarial drugs—an urgent threat that could lead to more malaria infections, treatment failures and deaths. In response, the CDC Foundation has helped establish a training laboratory in Senegal, where researchers from the hard-hit countries of sub-Saharan Africa are learning to identify genetic mutations associated with the resistance.
Harnessing Health Info Through PLACES
PLACES (Population Level Analysis and Community Estimates) is an innovative data platform that offers model-based, population-level analysis that paints a picture of community health by highlighting the number of community members who have high cholesterol or diabetes, exercise rates, the availability of green space and access to local grocery stores
The platform’s inclusion of disability and social determinants of health categories supports community-specific data needs. Local organizations use PLACES data to make informed decisions, advocate for their communities and address specific needs. Combining data with community input ensures health narratives are accurate and contextually relevant, fostering better health outcomes in local communities.
