Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Endowed Lectureship

Steven M. Teutsch, MD, MPH, EIS '77 and Carol B. Teutsch, MD

Drs. Steven and Carol Teutsch established the Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Endowed Lectureship in 2024. The fund supports an annual lecture as a complement to the Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness (PE) Fellowship, a postdoctoral fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The fellowship focuses on the application of quantitative methods to the science of health protection, health promotion and disease prevention.

The PE Fellowship addresses an on-going demand for applied health economics-based inquiry, decision science and disease modeling in the field of public health. At CDC, prevention effectiveness research includes the use of econometric, decision, simulation and operations analysis and modeling to understand the determinants of health, morbidity and mortality; health inequalities and disparities; the cost of public health services and preventive interventions; the burden of illnesses; the impact of regulations on population health; and ways to optimize resources for health services.

Since its inception in 1995, the PE Fellowship has graduated almost 250 fellows. In 2021, the PE Fellowship added a modeling Track. In 2023, PE alumni and fellows published 210 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
